Best Women's Golf Shirts
Sizes: XS-XXL
Colors: 14
Fabric: 95% Poly/5% Spandex
+ Choice of colors
+ Excellent shape
- Fitted style
For this sleeveless polo shirt, there’s an incredible 14 colors to choose from and 7 in the collection have a color contrasting zip, which in this case is white and does add a touch of flair to the v-neckline zipped placket.
I would say it’s true to size, there’s no gaping under the arms and the princess seam does contribute to its feminine shape. It’s fitted, but the hem flares slightly and I like this because it falls nicely over whatever you choose to wear on your bottom half, there’s no need to tuck it in, plus you can then show off Golftini’s logo, the pink Martini glass, which is bottom left. There’s enough stretch in the fabric for comfort and if you pair this with a skort or pants, you’ve got a go-to summer outfit.
Sizes: XS-XXL
Colors: 6
Fabric: 95% Polyester/5% Elastane
+Comfortable fabric
+ Non-clingy stretch
- Functional not fun top
This is steady as she goes kind of top. As with all UA the Playoff 3.0 Printed is a great sporty top. You feel comfortable swinging in it, it’s not clinging in any of the wrong places, it’s easy care and low maintenance. It is as no distraction as it says on the tim. It’s also not so inspiring, it’s probably not going to be the first pick of the tops - it will however always make the bench!
The UA polo shirt is a favorite for a reason it’s reliable and you know exactly what you’re getting. Upsides are the UPF50 sun ray protection and buttons. It’s a solid fitted top that you can wear at any time and there’s variety in the patterns too.
Sizes: XS-XXL
Colors: 9
Fabric: 95% Polyester/5% Spandex
+ Cool and comfortable
+ Great choice of colors
- Not for those who prefer a loose fitting top
A lilac polo with cap sleeves might sound like a basic summer staple, but I was impressed by this one from Pure Golf, which is available in 9 colors. The fabric is soft-to-touch and I was pleased how I stayed cool and comfortable in the heat. The cut is neatly shaped with just the right amount of stretch, and the cap sleeves sit flat without feeling tight or flimsy. The fit is quite tailored, so if you prefer something looser or want extra airflow, I’d go a size up.
It’s a simple design with a half-length zip, but combined with the fact that the fabric is quick dry, anti-crease, and has built-in UVA and UVB protection, it’s one of those tops that you’ll wear time and time again.
Sizes: XXS-XXXL
Colors: 6
Fabric: 86% Recycled Polyester/14% Elastane
+ Ultra soft comfort
+ Excellent choice of colors
- Unsuitable if you prefer a fitted style
The patterned side panels of this polo shirt from Rohnisch take it from a classic looking piece with a four button placket to something a bit more special. It’s very well made, I noticed the high quality of the stitching back and front and the slightly curved hem gives it extra shape. Rohnisch is written on the right chest and compared with other pieces in the collection, I like the fact that it’s quite subtle.
The recycled polyester fabric with UPF 40+ protection feels fine and silky, and the regular fit means there is plenty of room for maximum comfort, so I found it provided complete freedom of movement. I like the soft peach color, but there are 5 others to choose from and the shirt looks great with the Nicky skort.
Sizes: XS-XXL
Colors: 9
Fabric: 97% Polyester / 3% Spandex
+ Incredibly lightweight & breathable material
+ A fantastic choice of 9 colors
- You prefer a sleeveless t-shirt to reduce arm tan lines
The Galvin Green Melody comes in almost every choice of colors in the rainbow, making it the perfect option for club team colors, particularly as it is one block color rather than patterned. The solid-feeling sewen collar gives it a really smart appearance and doesn’t require any ironing to stay looking good, wash after wash.
The fabric has a silky soft touch and a lovely sheer sheen that looks really fashionable in the sunlight. It’s lightweight and delicate against the skin so you feel really cool and comfortable, with in-built moisture-wicking properties that prevent you from getting hot and sticky. There’s also UPF 20+ sun protection. The tailoring and shape is really flattering to all sizes, generous around the waist and bust. You can tell it’s been really well-thought out to suit a wide range of body types.
Sizes: XS-XL
Colors: 1 - Black
Fabric: 95% Nylon/5% Spandex
+ Luxurious fabric
+ All-round comfort
- If you’re not a fan of black
The quality of the super soft and stretchy fabric of this polo shirt from PXG stands out immediately. It’s a clean design with a silky texture, not the most summery color in black, but despite wearing it in warm weather, it was cool and comfortable, and paired with PXG’s Apron Pleated Skirt, it’s a chic look.
I like the detail on the ribbed collar and sleeves, which have metallic stripes, and combined with the three-button placket with a logoed tape, this adds elegance to a plain black shirt. The cut is tailored but not tight, with plenty of movement in the shoulders, so it’s not restrictive when swinging a club. The length is good, it’s not too long, so can easily be worn outside rather than tucked in - then you can show off the PXG tab logo at the bottom.
Sizes: XS-XXL
Colors: 3
Fabric: 89% Recycled Polyester, 11% Elastane
+ Flattering jigsaw camouflage pattern
+ Stretchy and light material helps you freewheel to your finish
- Extensive washing instructions. You need to remember not to use fabric conditioner with this beauty.
The pattern on this shirt is fun and almost Escher-esque. Like a jigsaw camouflage. I feel if you look carefully geometric lizards will appear, I love this. The fit is relaxed and I found especially comfortable to wear, it looks great over leggings and tighter fitting shorts. A matching skort would be great with this, the pattern would make such a fun golf dress. The available colours are beautiful and there’s something I think for everyone here. They range from bold and bright citrus “Pure Sulfur” to the subtle and elusive sage green “Wonder Silver”.
Sizes: XS-XL
Colors: 3 - Black/White, Navy/White, White/Olive
Fabric: 91% Nylon/9% Elastane
+ Understated yet elegant styling
+ Unrestrictive fabric
+ UPF 50+ sun protection
- Not if you prefer a more fitted shape
What I like most about this polo is that it’s very easy-to-wear in terms of looks and comfortability. There’s no fussiness, in white it’s very fresh with contrast coloring in green at the neckline and sleeve hems for a hint of elegance, and the open v-neck sits beautifully.
It’s made in a very stretchy nylon with UPF 50+ sun protection. Swing Control describes it as slim fit, but I found it to be a regular fit and that’s positive. The shape is not tapered at the waist and combined with the stretch, it's completely free-moving. I chose to wear it tucked into a pair of Swing Control pants, but with its tail hem and a nice length, you could wear it either way.
Sizes: 6-20
Colors: 4
Fabric:
+ Attractive detailing
+ Comfortable fit
- Longer length
For a sleeveless golf shirt, the Ping Nala has a lot of detail. I really like the Mandarin collar with the zip neck opening, but what stands out are the shoulder panels in cornflower blue and the decorative tape that highlights them. There are also curved seams at the front and back and these add to the feminine cut and styling.
Over 18 holes, this top felt very comfortable, the soft fabric is stretchy and there’s no gaping at the armholes. The back is slightly longer than the front and the hem has side slits, so it is designed to be worn outside. But it’s pretty long in the body and I think it looks better tucked in, especially if you pair this top with Ping’s Odetta skort, which has an attractive striped waistband.
Sizes: XXS-XXL
Colors: 6
Fabric: 86% Recycled Polyester / 14% Elastane
+ Lightweight fabric
+ Flattering fit with seamed panels
- Not particularly bold
This Rohnisch Nicky Sleeveless Poloshirt is going to be more of a steady go-to then your fashion forward pieces, but it's an item you’ll wear again and again for a long time to come. Which is also important if you play a lot. I love the panels on this top which make it a better fit for women's bodies than a two piece cut. That gives it the edge over many tops even if the colours are not particularly bold. I also liked that the cut under the arms was high so my bra couldn’t be seen.
I stayed cool on a warm day, even wearing the darker color. If you like low cost-per-wear value this is for you. It will be a great piece to wear with bolder, edgier bottoms.
Sizes: 6-20
Colors: 4
Fabric: 90% Recycled Polyester, 10% Elastane
+ Lightweight fabric without being clingy
+ Super breathable and keeps you the perfect temperature
- Although crease resistant I found it creases a touch but nothing that would put me off buying this
This polo shirt is a fairly typical polo offering on first glance. But look deeper and try it on and you realise there is more to it than your average polo. Made with recycled polyester this top is doing it’s bit for sustainability. The material is lightweight and stretchy, quickly moving moisture to keep you comfortable in hot conditions.
This matches up with the Ping Vic ladies skort coordinating the collar and cuffs of this shirt with the waistband of the skort, especially when tucked in. Worn together these garments offer a golf dress option, mainly if sizing down on the shirt. I found the size 10 fairly loose and it felt very comfortable on. I’d size down if pairing with the skort. The flattering white detail down the centre of the shirt gives great shape and offers the optical illusion of slimming down our middles.
Sizes: S-XL
Colors: 1 - Coral Quartz
Fabric: 44% Polyester/44% Recycled Polyester/12% Elastane
+ Distinctive design gives off a classy retro design that will garner compliments on the course
+ Extremely comfortable and doesn't feel restrictive as you swing
- Only one color option is a disappointment but hopefully there will be more to come
I definitely made a statement in this vibrant polo shirt from Penguin. It’s quite bold for me, but when paired with a skort in the same color - coral quartz - it’s a really striking outfit, and will look even better when the sun is out. It has a bowtie print, but I particularly like the color blocking at the sleeves, around the mock neck, zipped placket and at the hem.
The lightweight and stretchy fabric felt very soft against my skin, and with so many fitted tops on the market, I appreciated the unique style and comfort of this loose fitting top, including the decorative false pocket on the left chest with the Penguin logo. Given its shape and the color blocking at the hem, it looked best worn outside the skort.
Sizes: XS-XXL
Colors: 2 Collegiate Navy and Wonder Taupe
Fabric: 71% Recycled Polyester, 24% Viscose, 5% Elastane
+ Brilliant thicker material for a warmer sleeveless polo shirt
+ The loose fit looks great with anything and could be worn over a long or short sleeve shirt
- Fits large so can size down or keep it loose
This sleeveless polo feels more like a sleeveless tank top but in the cutest way. The material is a little thicker than modern day polo shirts and this is where this top overtakes so many others on the market. It’s got more structure to it and add this to the looser fit and the longer length at the back, it all adds up to being extremely flattering.
You’ll find yourself wearing this in the Spring and Autumn as well as the Summer as it offers a touch more warmth than others. Both colour options go with literally everything. It does come up bigger as it is a loose fit so if you want it fitted more size down. I wear this constantly on the golf course as well as with denim shorts out I love it that much.
Sizes: XS-XL
Colors: 1 - Snow
Fabric: 78% Nylon/22% Spandex
+ Beautiful fabric
+ Cool and comfortable
- Only one colorway in this design
This top has such a lovely texture, it’s extremely light and the silky soft fabric felt great against my skin. With its cooling effect and UPF 50+ protection, you’ll really reap the benefits of this sleeveless top on a very hot day. It’s an attractive all-over pattern with a silicone G/Fore circle logo on the back. This brand has a knack of giving clothing an edge, and the contrasting stripe collar and four button placket does just that.
I like the cut because it’s not too clingy and it has a tennis tail hem (longer at the back compared to the front) with small side slits. Wearing it loose with the Aye Poppy skort is a great combination as it blends seamlessly to give the appearance of a dress.
Sizes: XS-XL
Colors: 8
Fabric: 89% Polyamide/11% Spandex
+ Attractive design
+ Extremely comfortable
- Very fitted
The first thing I noticed about this sleeveless top is the high quality and stretchiness of the fabric, which also has UPF 50 sun protection, plus advanced anti-odor protection to keep you feeling fresh.
For me, the standout feature is the blade collar, as it sits really neatly around the neck and is complimented by the zip. I found that this top looks equally good with the zip up or down. You can easily miss the Bad Birdie embossed logo on the left chest, but this adds a nice touch. Thanks to the stretch, it’s easy to swing a club without feeling restricted. I also like the cut, it is very fitted, but it looks good tucked in or out. There are 8 colors to choose from and works brilliantly with Bad Birdie’s Down Pleated skort.
Sizes: XS-XXL
Colors: 3
Fabric: 100% recycled polyester
+ Extremely attractive design
+ Complete freedom of movement
- Delicate fabric
Abacus has made a short-sleeve white polo shirt less ordinary with a stylish collar and placket. It has a subtle blue stripe at the V-neck opening and this runs around the collar inside and out. A feminine touch are the three loosely sewn pearl buttons on the placket. I’m not one for logos, but I also like the italic style ‘abacus’ on the right sleeve.
It’s made of recycled polyester and it’s very delicate. I had to be careful not to catch it with my rings when putting it on and taking off. That said, the fabric is soft and comfortable, it’s not too clingy, making it easy to swing a club in this shirt. I also like the shape and it’s versatility, it looks good tucked in or worn outside paired with the Bovey ⅞ pants.
Sizes: XXS-XXL
Colors: 4
Fabric: 95% Polyester/5% Spandex
+ Cool and comfortable fabric
+ Eye-catching Garden print
- Neckline won’t suit everyone
This is definitely not a traditional looking golf top, but that’s what we expect from A.Putnam that produces golf lifestyle pieces. This long sleeve shirt is made in a very soft double mesh fabric, which feels soft against the skin. I like the Garden print, it’s fresh and works easily with skorts or trousers. The fit is relaxed and it falls nicely without clinging, although it looks just as good tucked in. It’s roomy, so if you prefer a fitted style, I suggest sizing down.
I wore this on a sunny day and given the long sleeves, I was surprised how I stayed cool throughout, even while walking the course. The fabric isn’t see-through, but best to wear a nude colored bra. It’s a piece you’ll want to keep in rotation, not just for golf but for any day.
How we test golf clothing
Here at Golf Monthly, our testing for golf clothes is built upon a comprehensive process combined with the knowledge and expertise of the entire Golf Monthly test team, headed up by Katie Dawkins and Alison Root, who lead all female golf equipment reviews. As far as the specific procedure goes, prior to testing, the team will usually attend product launches and meet with the manufacturer's R&D experts to understand the new technology in each piece of clothing.
When it comes to testing golf clothes, we head out to the course to try the shirt over a number of rounds on the UK's best courses. We look to try to use each item in as many different conditions as possible to give us the best feel of how these shirts perform in sun, rain and snow. We think it is vitally important to do both and continue to test the shirts so they have been comprehensively put to the test in many different conditions. It should also be mentioned that manufacturers cannot pay for a good review and we make our conclusions from the testing and our experiences.
How to choose a golf shirt
There is a lot to consider when purchasing new golf shirts but we have some handy tips on several things you need to look out for to make sure you make the best purchase possible for you.
1. Size
The first thing to consider is the size and fit of the shirt that you're buying. Obviously, you don't want your clothes to be too tight as that will restrict your movement on the course preventing you from playing your best golf. Whatever type of shirt you're buying whether that's a long sleeve shirt or short sleeve shirt, pick a size that looks good, isn't too loose fitting, but also gives you a full range of movement.
2. Colors
As golf styling is becoming more modern, brands are designing clothes that have a wide variety of colors, designs and fabrics that suit every golfer. From bright colorways to traditional patterns, there are plenty of colors available to you, so pick the color shirt that you like the most.
3. Mobility
This is a vital consideration for any golfer as if you're constricted in your mobility then you're going to struggle to perform a full swing. Look for shirts that aren't too tight-fitting, but are also made of stretchy fabrics that can expand with your movements. One good thing to keep an eye out for is t-shirts that have panels on the sides that help you stretch up and down with the arc of your swing.
4. Breathability
Particularly if you're playing in warmer climates, having polos that are breathable and keep you feeling fresh and aerated on the course are important to helping you stay cool and play your best golf. There's nothing worse than being hot and uncomfortable during your round, so for that reason, look to buy clothes that can keep you cool on the course.
5. Durability
Golf polo shirts don't come cheap, so try to find the a shirt that is going to last. Look for quality materials that wont stain, tear or shrink easily.

FAQs
Why do golfers wear polo shirts?
Golf is a traditionalist sport and some traditions must be maintained, that includes certain dress codes. Wearing a collar maintains a smart look, a presentable image and is meant to create a sense of professionalism when playing.
Should I keep my polo shirt tucked in when playing golf?
Golfers don't always have to keep their shirts tucked in when playing golf. Some traditional courses demand that players keep their shirts tucked in when playing golf, but the majority of courses won't mind if you play with your shirt untucked. In some instances, untucking your shirt can also help improve your mobility and reach higher in your backswing.
Should I wear long sleeve polo shirts or short sleeve polo shirts?
Depending on the weather conditions you can wear either long or short sleeve polo shirts whenever you want. Long sleeve shirts are great if you're playing in either hot or cold weather as they can keep you warm but also keep the sun off your arms. But it may be more advisable to wear a short sleeve polo shirt when it gets hot on the course. Ultimately it is always down to your own personal preference.
